5709 S. Skyline Drive, Evergreen, CO
A Piece of Evergreen, CO History.
This house has an amazing story to tell and I was honored to have been selected to tell it! (This is also how my vision for #houseswithstories began!)
This nostalgic Swiss Chalet style home is nestled on a five-acre, fully fenced site where the owners enjoy plenty of room to breathe and roam. The mountain property is completely functional with gentle slopes, flat areas and is divided for horses and livestock.
The level of quality in the construction of this home is like no other with massive post and beam design,
loads of built-ins and no detail overlooked with hand carved accents, decorative fillers and tongue and groove assembly.
Appointed with a one-of-a-kind walk-in fireplace, the entry hallway that runs the entire length of the house was made from a reclaimed mid 1900’s bowling alley floor. A solid brick divider wall with pavers believed to have been reclaimed from old Denver buildings is yet another special feature. The residence includes old church windows, a Harry Potter door that leads to a huge storage room on the second level, and a new modern kitchen that was truly built to compliment the stately construction and designed with a gourmet Chef in mind. Appointments include single cut stainless countertops, a built-in refrigerator/freezer, a commercial grade six-burner gas stove, and a walk-in pantry the size of a small bedroom.
The striking home showcases four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a loft, 2,504 square feet of finished living space, plus a carriage house over the garage with approximately 600 finished square feet.
The elevated catwalk was constructed in the same spirit as the home and offers direct access from the main house to the carriage house, and the structurally reinforced deck with pergola creates the perfect setting for sunset evenings in the hot tub or an intimate gathering with friends.
HAMMOND HARDWARE AND LUMBER
While the Hammond Hardware Store is no longer open, it remains a part of Evergreen’s history and adds
to the town’s rustic charm with the “Welcome to Evergreen” sign located in the heart of downtown.
The sign, which is displayed on the well-known green building on Main Street (Highway 74) where the store was formerly was located, welcomes visitors to this scenic high-country town that reminds visitors of why they live in Colorado in the first place. Just one mile away from the historic store, the Hammonds built their personal residence in the 1960s and it is on the market for the very first time!
The current owners made a promise to the family to keep the integrity of the home when they purchased it off market from them in 2011. They spent one entire year rehabbing, restoring and reclaiming the original structure with their own blood, sweat and tears. They groomed the entire five-acre site and have made their home and property the local central gathering place for their friends, family and neighbors.
This home is a must-see for those who appreciate mountain architecture and want the best that Evergreen has to offer. Located just one mile from downtown Evergreen’s amenities, including abundant restaurants, shops, trails, a beautifully manicured golf course, and sparkling Evergreen Lake, the property feels private and secluded, making it the best of mountain living.
